radials, a quieter ride, guard beams, and a nose job! It was a testimony to the staying power of Corvette that the car continued into 1973 despite the extensive engineering and tooling cost that GM would incur in bringing the car in-line with the latest safety standards.
Its subtle revisions and new design elements would serve to enhance its image:
the front fender molds got a simple, recessed air vent design; interior compartment sound levels that were reduced by 40%.
Plus the security of steel guard beams in the doors.
The most noteable difference was the aerodynamic front end, formed for a variety of functions:
it protects, the body-color front bumper is stronger, specially mounted with an outer cover made of injection-molded urethane to resist dents and prevent rust.
The new domed hood had an air-induction design that improved high output engine operation.
The swooping shape of the front end even took care of covering the headlights and the windshield wipers.
